Norfolk Island
What a great little Island to go to... Very fascinating place with a lot of Australian History. It was a penal settlement for the crim's that were taken from mainland Australia for isolation, and better security for the Australian public.
Norfolk Island is a territory of Australia, located off the East Coast of Northern New South Wales. Self-Governed under the "Norfolk Island Act", gives it its own identity. Although it is part of Australia, under the Act, it enables Australians to travel to Norfolk "Duty Free". It is a great shopping place. In fact, people are known to go on a "One-Day Shopping Trip!"

The "New Gaol" (1847) only the wall is left standing. The buildings inside are in ruin, but, current restorations are slowly proceeding to "dig-out" the 'floor plan' of the cell blocks.

A 'time-exposure' photo taken at night from the verandah of a Norfolk Islander's home, where we went for 'desert' on a progressive dinner. Philip Island can be seen in the background - a small Island just off the coast of Norfolk.

The "Bounty Tablets" - The Ten Commandments and The Lords Prayer carved into 'boards' taken from the Bounty, This is only the first half, the second was destroyed by fire in the building they were stored, only one was rescued. The second is being re-carved in Norfolk pine. There is a photo of the two which they are using to copy to re-create these historical treasures.
