"The Millennium Aurora"
The Victorian Train
Exquisite Victorian heritage sleeping, dining and lounge / observation cars ...
Our restored eleven car Victorian train is an impressive historic delight. Parlour and Observation car "Yarra" built for the Sydney express in 1906 provides an elegant lounge area and a unique panoramic viewing opportunity for the splendid scenery. Snacks and drinks will be available in the licensed air-conditioned lounge car "Victoria". Dining car "Avoca" is a glorious reminder of fine 1920's craftsmanship.
Two temperate autumn nights will be spent in distinctive clerestory roofed Edwardian non-airconditioned sleeping cars which started their careers on the Melbourne - Adelaide "Overland" express. Shower car "Carey" provides refreshing hot and cold showers in eight clean and private shower rooms.
The richly detailed timber panelled twin compartments of the Victorian train are equipped with a wide, comfortable lounge seat, two berths with laundered bed linen and blankets, towels, soap, luggage storage, main and reading lights, cupboard and mirror. There's a wash basin in each compartment, toilets at the end of each car and a centrally located clean and hot shower car.
The Victorian train will be hauled by steam locomotive R711 throughout, assisted by steam locomotive R761 from Spencer Street to Dunolly and by vintage "S" and "GM" class diesel locomotives on portions of both overnight sectors.
Lounge / Bar car:
Licensed lounge / bar car will be open throughout the journey - a wide range of alcoholic, mixed and soft drinks are available to enjoy with meals, or in the comfortable convivial lounge area.
Meals:
Fine table d'hôte meals will be served in the dining cars throughout the rail journey, prepared by an experienced chef and served by our friendly, efficient staff.
Start each day with a lavish breakfast of fruits, cereals and juices, hot savoury course, toast and pastries. During the day, a two course luncheon will be served and, in the evening, 'Dinner in the Diner' is an elaborate three course meal showcasing our chef's versatile talents.
On board, each dining table seats four - a table and meal sitting reservation will be provided with your tickets.
Off train meals are detailed in the itinerary - venues and meals have been carefully selected to provide a consistently high standard and all passengers will dine as a group.
Complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits and cake are available on board throughout the rail journey.
