The 'Southern Aurora' Train

Travel in style aboard the famous "Southern Aurora" express ... a 1960's icon of the nation, back on the rails re-awakening the romance of rail ...

Meals aboard the 'Southern Aurora' are served in the stylish air-conditioned dining car - a unique and civilised restaurant style culinary experience ... starched linen, tinkling cutlery and fine food accompanied by fabulous views rolling right by your dining table window.

The licensed 'Southern Aurora' lounge / bar car provides a pleasant social environment to relax in comfort and enjoy the views with a wide range of between-meal snacks, alcoholic and soft drinks.

Sleeping compartments on the sleek stainless-steel sheathed "Southern Aurora" provide a private and comfortable wide vision sitting room by day and are easily converted to a cosy bedroom at night. The air-conditioned 'Southern Aurora' sleeping cars offer single and twin compartments with en-suite toilets and washbasins and hot showers. Sleeping berths are prepared with laundered bed linen and blankets, all compartments have towels, soap, luggage storage, power points, main, reading and night lights, cupboard and mirror.

Adjourn to our three comfortable and roomy air-conditioned 1930's sitting cars to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of steam from close at hand - with a train capacity of only 96, there's plenty of opening windows for all!

The 'Southern Aurora' will be hauled by steam locomotives 3801 and 3830, except where vintage diesel haulage is indicated in the itinerary.

Lounge / Bar car:

Licensed lounge / bar car will be open throughout the journey - a wide range of alcoholic, mixed and soft drinks are available to enjoy with meals, or in the comfortable convivial lounge area.

Meals:

Fine table d'hôte meals will be served in the dining cars throughout the rail journey, prepared by an experienced chef and served by our friendly, efficient staff.

Start each day with a lavish breakfast fo fruits, cereals and juices, hot savoury course, toast and pastries. During the day, a two course luncheon will be served and, in the evening. 'Dinner in the Diner' is an elaborate three course meal showcasing our chef's versatile talents.

On board, each dining table seats four - a table and meal sitting reservation will be provided with your tickets.

Off train meals are detailed in the itinerary - venues and meals have been carefully selected to provide a consistently high standard and all passengers will dine as a group.

Complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits and cake are available on board throughout the rail journey.
